Regulator outlines top strategic, credit, operational and compliance risks

A recovered banking industry confronts cybersecurity, money laundering and other complex and emerging threats.

From the vantage point of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the U.S. banking system is healthy and credit risk is stable in a continuing low-interest-rate environment. But various strategic, competition-related and operational risks, not least the prospect of rising rates and cybersecurity, require close attention.

That is the general evaluation in the OCC’s Semiannual Risk Perspective, taking into account mid-year and year-end 2016 data. These reports have become benchmarks reflective of banking conditions in the five years that the national bank and federal savings association regulator has been publishing them.
